I am a London (UK) based artist who rearranges existing cultural works - often iconic texts such as Frankenstein - into new configurations and dialogues through a promiscuous approach to material and form, including books and print, sound and music, performance, film, sculpture and installation, according to the context of manifestation and mode of dispersal.

My work aims to be playful, poetic, and political. It is self-consciously unoriginal and challenges society's continuous demand for newness. I am interested in the transformation of cultural value and historical tropes within the contemporary realm, using methods of constraint or instruction to aid and abate the horror of creation. Words and images illicitly combine to manufacture exorbitant imaginary relationships, in which fragments of data assume sublime agency and cultural objects play out power relations.

 

I have participated in exhibitions and events including at Camden Arts Centre, LUX/ICA Biennial of Moving Images, V&A Museum, Whitechapel Gallery, IMT Gallery, London; Arnolfini, Bristol; Ikon Gallery, Birmingham; Haifa Museum of Art, Israel; ohrenhoch, Berlin; Shiraz Artist House, Iran; Golden Thread, Belfast;  Sheppard Fine Arts Gallery, Reno, USA; Strauhof Museum, Zurich; and Cubitt studios, London, where I have been based since 2012 and am currently CoChair of the artists' cooperative. 

 

 

I originally studied French & Italian at Bristol University and worked in translation before completing a Foundation in Art & Design at Central St Martin's (now UAL) followed by MA Fine Art Media at the Slade School, UCL. I co-directed a web and arts development company (Platform3) for ten years before completing an AHRC-funded PhD in art practice at Goldsmiths College in 2013, and have since worked across higher education. I am currently director of postgraduate studies at University of Reading School of Art.
